A little eggs-tra help for a very worthy cause
A DENBIGHSHIRE business is going the eggs-tra mile to help out a charity this Easter.
Denbigh-based Artisan Windows have made a pledge to donate chocolate eggs to fill hand-knitted chicks made by a Flintshire fundraising group – who have more than 1,000 knitted chicks to fill.
It’s the second year the group, who donate all their proceeds to Macmillan, have made the chicks, which are filled with a small, cream egg size chocolate egg and sold for £1 through a number of local schools.
Artisan Windows answered a call made through North Wales Business Supporting Communities (B2C) to donate eggs.
“We are very happy to help out with such a worthy cause,” said Ian Gibson from Artisan.
But, the group have plenty of chicks to fill and they are still coming off the knitting needle production line.
Fundraiser Margaret Shone said: “It’s the second year that we have done this and, because we’ve started a bit earlier this time, with help from friends and neighbours who have donated wool and helped to make them, we’ve already made more than 1,000.”
The Easter initiative is just one of a number of ways that the group raise money for Macmillan, along with coffee mornings, garden parties and fashion shows.
Since they formed four years ago, the group have donated some £20,000 to the charity which provides cancer care and support.
Sarah Thomas, Project Manager at B2C, has echoed Margaret’s call for businesses to dig deep and donate eggs in aid of a very good cause.
She said: “The group are very grateful for the support that they have already received but they could do with a few more to fill all those chicks. They are lovely things and I’m sure that they will sell really well so I urge any business in the area who could help to get in touch with the group.”
B2C is a Big Lottery funded project, delivered by the six County Voluntary Councils, which aims to forge lasting relationships between businesses and community groups.
